A year ago yesterday marked the release date of his first full-length album, “Red Roses“, and what better way to celebrate the milestone in his musical career than by sharing a video featuring one of his hits! A fan favourite (quite literally), Rafael’s song entitled “Emma Watson” is a cute, catchy, and endearing tune expressing his sentiments towards a certain British actress. (You may know her as the smartypants ‘Hermione’ from the Harry Potter movie franchise, and as ‘Sam’ in the upcoming flick The Perks of Being a Wildflower hitting theatres this fall).
What seemed to resonate with fellow Emma Watson fans and AJ Rafael fans alike upon first hearing the song (produced last spring) was this idea of an ordinary person gushing about his celebrity crush – something we’ve all done in one form or another. We’ve all had our moments when our inner fangirl or fanboy has come out to make an appearance. And we all have different ways of showing our love for our favourite stars; from posters on our walls and lockers, to making him/her/them our desktop or phone background, to spamming directly sending them incessant tweets hoping and praying to get a tweet back or an RT at the very least, to writing lengthy blog posts proclaiming our unwavering love for him/her/them in that moment in time (only to find ourselves moving on to becoming infatuated with another celebrity the following day), the list goes on.
What I found to be fantastic about Rafael’s music video was that he captured the enthusiasm, and dedication that fans typically exude by showcasing various fans (a combination of his, of Emma, and of other celebrities) and how each fan has their own unique way of displaying their passion and appreciation.
Rafael has been trying to get this song of his noticed by Ms. Watson herself. Fingers crossed that she’ll stumble upon it one of these days! Take a gander at the music video below:
