New Holiday Cheer!

Nothing rings in the holiday season like good ol’ fashion Christmas music! You hear it in coffee shops. You hear it at the mall. Heck, you hear it while you snuggle up to the Holiday Yule Log on TV. Holiday music is just one of the many joys of the Christmas season!

However, listening to those timeless Christmas classics for an entire month can get a bit tiring. So, just to spice things up here are some new, festive tidings of Christmas cheer fresh off Santa’s merry sleigh for all to enjoy!

Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson – Winter Song

Off the 2008 holiday compilation “The Hotel Café Presents Winter Songs”, singer-songwriter gems/close pals Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson join in the holiday cheer on a very special Christmas collaboration entitled “Winter Song”. Accompanied by a cutesy animated music video, this stirring winter lullaby is gloomy yet enchanting to say the least. I think its safe to say that this precious holiday classic is bursting with charm and has an ending that is utterly heartwarming.

Jack Johnson – In the Morning

In typical Jack Johnson style, “In the Morning” ends up as a fun and quirky holiday record that remains fittingly festive yet has that familiar Hawaiian surfer vibe to it. Amy Sciarretto of PopCrush summarizes the song perfectly as she describes it as an “ode to the joy and anticipation that kids feel when barreling down the steps to open presents; the parents view of such events is the gift they keep.” All we need are ornament-adorned palm trees and a surfing Santa to round out the Aloha Christmas experience.

P.S. Johnson reworked his song “Angel” into a twinkling Christmas track. Be sure to check it out on his recent holiday album “This Warm December, a Brushfire Holiday, Vol. 2”.

Colbie Caillat – Mistletoe

Justin Bieber isn’t the only one finding themselves under a mistletoe this holiday season. California sweetheart Colbie Caillat released her own holiday single “Mistletoe” back in 2007 to much commercial success as it was lauded as one of the most downloaded holiday songs of the year. In this Christmas classic, Caillat sings the holiday blues as she laments a distant lover who won’t be home for Christmas. It just goes to show that even a “Bubbly” girl like Caillat has a blue Christmas once in a while.

OneRepublic – Christmas Without You

In this touching tribute from an absent lover, “Christmas Without You” provides an interesting mesh of smooth rock and festive tidings. In anticipation for the expected spring release of their third album, OneRepublic recently prepared this holiday single for fans and tweeted “putting final touches on our Christmas song- we went old school, doesnt sound like ANYTHING we’ve done. we want it timeless. Crosby, Sinatra.”

Coldplay – Christmas Lights

Presented to us last Christmas, this Coldplay yuletide single turned holiday classic is an essential addition to your Christmas playlist. Its gentle piano delivery and spellbinding chorus are rousingly backed by bright, wistful lyrics. “Oh Christmas lights / Light up the street / Light up the fireworks in me / May all your troubles soon be gone / Those Christmas lights keep shining on.” “Christmas Lights” is just one of those gifts that keeps on giving.
