Top 10 Must Go To Restaurants in Vancouver

Are you sick of eating McDonalds, Subway or even that weird place on campus with barely edible food? Get off campus and really start enjoying real food!

Eating out on a student’s budget is often times very hard since all the good food cost so damn much. Vancouver is a cornucopia of amazing eats! If you look hard enough, you will be able to find some unique finds for under $15. I’ve picked out 10 of my all time favorite restaurants in the Lower Mainland.

If you have never been to any of these restaurants, take out your To-Do list and jot these down. You don’t want to miss any of these amazing eats.

Sajin’s Green Tea Cafe

Sajin’s Green Tea Cafe is Japanese owned and creates THE BEST Matcha Lattes in Vancouver! They serve items like sandwiches and curry rice. If you go here, you must leave with their Matchs Lattes in your hand. Guaranteed the best! Starbucks can’t even compare.
Must order: Matcha Latte
Deals: After 2pm, all Medium-sized Matcha Lattes are $2
Location: 110 – 840 Howe Street

Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh is probably the best hole in the wall restaurant in Vancouver.  They are Vancouver’s most famous Vietnamese restaurant. They are located in Chinatown and is a restaurant that all Vancouverites must visit at least one… or twice… or in my case 4 times.

Must order: Marinated Butter beef, Chicken Wings, Luc Lac, iced coffee and Deep fried squid!
Location: 244 E Georgia St

Finch’s is another hidden gem. They specialize in amazing baguette sandwiches! It’s a small place near SFU Harbour center and are usually packed for lunch. These sandwiches are AMAZING!
Must order: Prosciutto Baguette
Location: 353 W Pender St

JJ’s Restaurant

JJ’s Restaurant is cheap affordable and best of all it’s a restaurant run by VCC culinary students. Soups and appetizers are around $4 and mains are around $8 – $10. A very good place for lunch. 3 course dinners are about $24. You will have an unforgettable meal. All the waiters and cooks are students of the culinary school, so you are supporting the program.
Must order: Avocado shrimp salad
Location: 250 W Pender St

Rodney’s Oyster

Rodney’s Oyster House is really popular and has a great “low tide” option between 3pm to 6pm! Rodney’s Oyster House is probably one of the best places to go to if you want to get your Oyster craving out of your system…or make you come back for more until you run out of money.
Must order: Oysters! Fried Oysters!
Deals: Low-tide option between 3pm and 6pm daily
Location: 1228 Hamilton St

Sushiholic is a new sushi joint near Renfrew. It looks super sketchy from the outside, but on the inside, they have some amazing rolls for decent prices. It’s definitely something to check out. this can rival other sushi joints like Sushi Town, Sushi Garden and California Sushi.
Must order: Sushiholic Tray, Volcano Roll, Fire Dragon Roll
Location: 3311 E Broadway

Tacofino is another new food truck hitting the streets of Downtown Vancouver. Tacofino originated from Tofino, BC thus their name Taco”fino”. They have spent the past 2 years operating on the island, but has finally made their way here. They have delicious tacos that you will drool over.

Osa Tako Hero

Osa Tako Hero specilizes in authentic Takoyaki. Their whole cart is theme like an cartoon RPG game. I was actually quite surprise and confused at the same time. Their takoyaki is so much better than the ones at the Richmond Night Market.
Must order: Takoyaki!
Location: Howe & W. Pender – in front of Pacific Center Mall entrance

Pho Tam

Pho Tam looks pretty ghetto from the outside, but they are one of the best Pho places in the Lower Mainland! It is located outsde SFU Surrey and have a lot of meat and filling in their pho. Everything is very fresh!

Vallarta’s Mexican

Vallarta’s Mesican is a really great hole in the wall restaurant with huge delicious portions. They serve up authentic Mexican food which will tingle your taste buds. The burrito is the size of a plate! No matter if you get a meatless or meat dish, you will leave happy.

  • Awesome article Diana! Of all the places on this list, I’ve sadly only been to Pho Tam, but it’s one of my favourite places to eat in Surrey.

I keep putting off going to Phnom Penh, but perhaps it’s time to make that trip finally!

    • Yo SpennyNub, Let’s go get some Butter Beef and Chicken Wings!

  • Vallarta’s Mexican food definitely looks sketch, but the deliciousness and the size is outstanding!

  • DJ Roman J

I have to go to these restaurants!

  • Check out tamarind hill in new west! 🙂
