This is the next installment in our “Get to Know Our Writers” series for the month of September, in celebration of Recultured’s 2nd anniversary. Here’s the Recultured Profile of the Editor-in-Chief!

Recultured Profile

Name: Dulce

Hometown? New Westminster (Not born there, but raised there)

What are you studying? Business

Favourite book? “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” by J.K. Rowling

Favourite childhood TV show and current favourite TV show?

I would watch Recess endlessly, and these days, Doctor Who!

What song would you want played at your funeral?

“Light” from the musical Next to Normal

What actor/actress would play you in a movie about yourself?

Colorblind casting? Emma Watson, because she’s amazing.

What is one of your guilty pleasures?

Cheesy Romantic Comedies. Like Can’t Buy Me Love!

Last thing that made you cry?

Troye Sivan’s song inspired by John Green’s novel “The Fault In Our Stars”

What superpower would you most want?

To fly!

If your house was on fire, what would be the first thing you would save?

As many photo albums as I could carry.

Write 2 truths and 1 lie about yourself.

I originally applied as an English major at university.
I want to work in some capacity for Pixar Animation Studios.
When I was in first grade, I wanted to be a palaeontologist.

Recultured is the blogging project of The Social Media Network. How addicted are you to social media?

I am on almost every social media platform, but most frequently use twitter, tumblr, and facebook. I’m always eager to at least try everything. Social media is definitely what I check in the morning and it’s what often keeps me up before sleeping at night!

#1 tip for first-years in college/university?

Talk to people! It is lonely in first year unless you’re an outgoing extrovert (I’m not), but you have to understand that most people in their first year are also lonely! Even when your heart is racing, you start sweating, and you feel your stomach drop, still open your mouth and say hello to someone looking lonely too!4702399320_3aea1c4da1

Why do you write?

Writing is one of my favourite creative outlets. I get to share fully articulated thoughts and opinions on a global scale and end up hearing from other people all around the world who share the same interests. It fosters discussion to a detail that you can’t always get in in-person conversations in the hustle and bustle of our busy lives! It’s just lots of fun!

Recommend one Recultured article written by someone else, and one by yourself.

Concert Review: Sara Bareilles at Rio Theatre by Elizabeth The – I almost went to this concert, but ended up not going, but this article recapped it perfectly well for me! I credit this article for reigniting my love for Sara Bareilles’s music.
Step Over That Line! A Monsters University Lesson by Mike Wazowski – We could all use some inspiration from time to time, right? Perfect for the back to school season!

Lastly, it’s Recultured’s 2nd birthday, what kind of cake would you like?

Strawberry Cheesecake Blizzard Ice Cream Cake! 2 in 1!
