Name: Fiona Leung

Where are you from? I was born and raised in beautiful British Columbia, specifically Vancouver!

What are you studying? I am currently finishing up my last year as an SFU Communication major with a minor in Interactive Arts and Technology. My passion involves the overlap between writing and design, which is clearly translated into my studies.

What is your favourite book? Oh jeez, I haven’t picked up a good novel besides my textbooks ever since I began my post secondary career. But if I really had to choose, I would say Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger. Thought provoking, symbolic and enticing, the storyline is truly captivating.

Where can we find you on the weekends? By day, I am usually dressed as a princess making balloon animals and painting kids’ faces. By night, I enjoy spending time with close knit friends or relaxing at a trendy restaurant.

What is your biggest guilty pleasure? I am a victim to those delicious instant noodle cups! I admit to devouring those things as a late night snack. Super unhealthy, but somehow they make for perfect late night indulgence.

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why? Without a doubt, I would be a cat. Majestic, elegant and graceful in their movements yet strong and feisty. The perfect balance between beautiful yet independent.

Tell us two truths and a lie.

  • I have walked the Great Wall of China.
  • I am allergic to jalapeno.
  • I have a habit of keeping a jar of sand from beaches I visit throughout my life.

What is your favourite social media platform and why? Twitter! Whether it be on the skytrain transiting from school or lounging around at home, I often find myself tweeting anything that comes to mind. I believe tweeting something educational, humorous or just plain interesting makes the social media world so much more valuable.

What is your favourite part about blogging? I enjoy writing without limitations and just simply expressing myself to a large audience. There’s nothing like showcasing your writing skills while telling a story to the world.

What is a goal you have set for this school year? I hope to gain website design and writing experience during my next few months at my new coop job.

Any advice for first years? Strive to be a well-rounded individual. This is your time to substantially grow so be involved with school, join more clubs, volunteer, gain work experience (definitely look into coop) and don’t forget to have fun!
