Neat Tips and Tricks: Oatmeal Masks

We are half way through spring’s semester, which means school’s getting busy. Slowly, we will be sleeping less and working more. Our skin will start feeling dry/oily and our complexion will decrease. Did you know an increase of cortisol not only increases heart problems, but also promotes ageing skin? Here are two cheap and simple oatmeal masks/scrubs recipes that I derived from Bubzbeauty.

Oatmeal Scrub (minute-less)

Before going to bed or school, substitute your facial soap with this bad boy. It’ll not only make your skin radiant, but also protect it from acne breakouts and skin ageing.

What you’ll need:
Oatmeal (Doesn’t matter what kind. I personally prefer the quick cooking ones.)

Step 1:
Grab a palm full of oatmeal and clench your hand into a fist.

Step 2:
Run your fist over lukewarm tap water for a few seconds (10 seconds or more) to allow the oatmeal to soak in water. Repeat the process until the oatmeal is saturated and soft.


  • You can press down on the oatmeal a few times to make the process fast.

Step 3:
Massage the oatmeal on your face for about a minute or less. Rinse it off with water.


  • It should feel soft and not scratchy

Step 4:
Dry your face, and apply moisturizer.


Super Oatmeal Mask (5 minutes) 



You don’t have a lot time on your hands. It’s okay, this mask allows you to work while your face relaxes. All you need is 5 minutes to make this mask, and what’s great with this is you can pre-make it and put it in the fridge to preserve it for about a week. If it’s a little hard to apply the face, grab the portion you need and add a bit of water to soften the mix.


  • Great for a hot summer. The mask would not only give you the benefits, but the chilling sensation can help you forget about the heat.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 tablespoon/teaspoon
  • 1 small bowl
  • Oatmeal (Plain, instant, quick cooking,etc. I personally prefer the quick cooking ones.)
  • Green tea
  • Pure Honey
  • Rice flour

Step 1: Oatmeal
Add one tablespoon of oatmeal and one or two tablespoons of hot water into the bowl. Mix it until there is a smooth consistency.

Step 2: Green Tea
Option A
Grab a few (3-5) green tea chunks and grind it into small pieces. Add that into the bowl.

Option B
Grab a green tea bag and make a cup of tea. Then use half to one teaspoon of the green tea from the tea bag and put that in the bowl.

Step 3: Honey
Add a tablespoon of honey to the bowl.

Step 4: Rice Flour
Add a tablespoon of rice flour and mix well.
If the mix seems to be a bit too watery you can add more rice flour to make it more consistent.

Step 5: Apply and Rinse
Apply it to your face and leave it on 5 to 10 minutes and then rinse it off.

Step 6: Moisturize
Apply moisturiser.

I love these homemade masks because they not only save my time and money, but also my worries of being allergic to store bought masks. With homemade masks, I know what’s going on my face and have control over  the masks’ ingredients, which are great for sensitive skins.
