When you hear the word Nest, bird chirps may come into mind, but what if I tell you it is the most sexy thermostat out there!
Created by the man responsible for overseeing the design of 18 generations of the renowned iPod, Tod Fadell has done it again, but this time with a thermostat.
Not only is the Nest designed to be a jewel on the wall, but it also helps your home become more environmentally friendly too, without you even thinking about it. Having a programmable thermostat to reduce heating or cooling in your home is no new thing, and most of the ones out there are rarely, if ever, programmed at all. The thing that makes Nest unique apart from its fantastic design, is its ability to learn your daily patterns.
At the start, it would take a lot of tweaking and adjusting of the thermometer, done by twisting the rim around the Nest, to your desired levels at different times of the day. A small leaf image on the display will also help direct you to the most energy efficient option. However, as the days past, it will start learning your usual patterns and it will adjust the temperature to appropriate levels without you even having to lift a finger. Fadell also claims that the Nest can expect to save households around 30% of their utility bills, more than any of those out in the market today.
If those features aren’t enough, there is one more kicker for those forgetful mornings when you rush out of the house without adjusting the temperature. You can control the Nest wirelessly using any Internet-connected device, or with an app on the iPhone or Android.
If you are thinking that all this technology packed into a ‘jewel’ can’t come cheaply, you are correct, it is from an ex-Apple designer after all, With a cool price of $249, it is definitely the ‘iPod of thermostats’, but don’t think you can get your hands on one easily, because even at this price the first batch is all sold out. So you still have time to start saving and put this gem into your home collection.
